If you are a string player, you must play the enclosed excerpts from the scheduled music for the Fall LBSYO concert. For the 2013 auditions, there are 2 excerpts, both from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1. Do your best to come as close as possible to the indicated tempi and be careful to observe any written dynamics, articulations, etc. Please be aware that the excerpts are primarily for placement within each string section.

Major Scales – up to 3 flats/sharps (E-flat/A):

You will be asked to play 2 to 3 different scales. Be prepared to play them in the manner that you are accustomed. (minimum speed: quarter note = 60 beats/min.)

Solo/Etude:

Be prepared to perform one brief solo piece/etude that illustrates your technical skill and musical abilities. (FOR PERCUSSION: prepare 2 brief solos/etudes. One on snare drum and another one on mallets.)

Sight Reading:

You will be asked to sight read a short musical selection. It would helpful to work on this skill prior to your audition by reading simple duets and such with your friends.
