Featuring the Carolina Master Chorale and the Coastal Carolina University Concert Choir
The LBS presents a centennial celebration of the birth of Leonard Bernstein, the most influential American composer of the 20th century. The program features favorite Bernstein compositions from musical theater—Candide Overture, Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story—as well as his most popular sacred work, Chichester Psalms (featuring the Carolina Master Chorale and the Coastal Carolina University Concert Choir). Other highlights include works of composers championed by Bernstein the conductor—Aaron Copland’s “Buckaroo Holiday” from Rodeo, Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question, and Gustav Mahler’s “Adagietto” from Symphony No. 5—further demonstrating Leonard Bernstein’s wide influence on the musical world of his time.
