Musicians in the School
Our Musicians in the Schools program provides students the opportunity to learn about and interact with professional musicians. Long Bay Symphony musicians visit local classrooms at all educational levels throughout the year, during which they perform for students and talk about the life of a professional musician, along with providing workshops and/or masterclasses for the higher education levels with established orchestral programs.
Music Teacher of the Year
We believe that the key to growing the community’s love for the arts and music starts with the youth and the important influence of today’s teachers. That's why we created The Long Bay Symphony Music Teacher of the Year Award: to recognize excellence in music education in the Grand Strand. Each year, one teacher from Horry County is chosen from each education level (elementary, middle, and high school) to receive recognition and a gift basket from the Long Bay Symphony and our partners.
Young People's Concert
Each year, the Long Bay Symphony presents a concert to nearly 2,000 elementary students in Horry and Georgetown counties. These concerts supplement the public school curriculum and introduce students to the symphony orchestra. A concert curriculum highlighting unique aspects of the program is provided to teachers, enhancing the student’s musical experience.
Boys & Girls Club Summer Introductory Violin Camp
We provide 8-week beginner group violin lessons with a LBS musician to students at the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand as an option for their summer programs. Students are outfitted with their own violin for the program which they can keep after completion.
This program is open to all grade levels, with a focus on 4th and 5th grade students, in order to encourage students to join their school’s orchestra program in middle school and instill a love and appreciation of music of all kinds.
